Now, an interesting update about the story of the film is doing rounds on the internet. 'MayDay' is reportedly inspired by the 2015 episode of a Jet Airways Doha-Kochi flight which almost got crashed due to poor visibility.

The incident took place on August 18, 2015, early in the morning. 9W 555 flight carrying 141 passengers and eight crew members onboard took off from Doha. When the pilot tried to land at its destination at Kochi, due to poor visibility the plane was diverted to Trivandrum. But, as the visibility was equally poor, the pilots initiated a May Day call. After three attempts, the plane finally landed at Trivandrum airport with only 250 kg of fuel left (A Boeing 737 aircraft should have a minimum fuel reserve of about 1500 kg). The final schedule of the film will take place in Doha.
