> After a quiet start full of small films, October's box office reportedly rests on three big releases: Venkatesh's Aadarsha Kutumbam on October 9, Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 on October 15 and Vijay Deverakonda's Ranabaali on October 16.

October 2026 has opened with a crowd of small releases, but reports say the trade is counting on three big films to carry the month: Venkatesh's Aadarsha Kutumbam, Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 and Vijay Deverakonda's Ranabaali. Around eight films are reportedly fighting for screens over the first weekend, among them Sanchari, Don't Trouble The Trouble, Thella Kagitham, Anakapalli, Sigma and Dorothy. Few of them arrive with real hype, so a surprise hit would be a welcome bonus.

Aadarsha Kutumbam leads the charge on October 9. The family drama brings Venkatesh together with director Trivikram Srinivas, and fans of the pair have high hopes. Venkatesh is on a hot streak after Sankranthiki Vasthunnam, which reportedly grossed over Rs 250 crore, and a guest role in Chiranjeevi's blockbuster Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu. Reports say production delays and a muted teaser have held back the buzz, but a strong opening in cities and overseas markets is still expected.

The makers are reportedly planning to release the trailer on October 4, just days before the film reaches theatres. Srinidhi Shetty plays the female lead, with Nivetha Pethuraj, Nara Rohith, Pujita Ponnada, Rao Ramesh, Yuvina Parthavi and Satya in supporting parts. Haarika & Hassine Creations is producing, and Thaman has composed the music.

Jailer 2 follows on October 15, aiming for the Dasara holiday window. The first film, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, reportedly revived Rajinikanth's box office and set records. According to reports, repeated delays have cooled the sequel's buzz, and none of its songs have become big hits so far. Still, Nelson's dark humour and his stylish way of presenting mass heroes could spark a big run if the film clicks on day one.

Ranabaali arrives a day later, on October 16, and it is a key film for Vijay Deverakonda. He reportedly plays a king in a period story set in Rayalaseema and speaks the region's dialect, and his dialogue delivery in the teaser has drawn praise. The actor has not had a major blockbuster in recent years, so a lot rides on this one. Directed by Rahul Sankrityan and produced by Mythri Movie Makers, it is also his first film with Rashmika Mandanna since their marriage.
