He made his debut with the Telugu film Sneham in the year 1977. He has received Honorary Doctorate from Andhra University. He was honored with the title "Hasya Kireeti". He has received three Nandi Awards, SIIMA Award and CineMAA Award for Best Actor. He has acted in over 200 films in Telugu and few in Tamil.
